OLD VIRGINIA BATTER BREAD

   1      cup           milk

   1      cup           water

   1      cup           cornmeal, white

   2      tablespoons   rice, cooked

   1      tablespoon    butter

   1      teaspoon      salt

   2                    eggs -- beaten

Grease a deep baking pan. Boil together milk and water. Mash cold boiled rice with a fork until smooth; add to cornmeal. While the milk and water are still hot, pour over cornmeal and rice. Add salt and butter. Stir in well-beaten eggs. Bake slowly. It will look like pudding when done.
