The Miles Files, Version 4.0, May 2004, contains over 37,000 names with links from generation to generation, complete with source notes and an every name index. Your web browser will give you the ability to view the entire file, including the master index, surname index, family information, sources and pop up 3-generation pedigrees for each individual in a hypertext format. By simply clicking on underlined names or text you can jump from person to person, generation to generation, to the families of the spouses, to the sources of information, or to the name index. This ability to navigate through the large amounts of information presented here makes it easy to comprehend, and to understand not only individual relationships and their direct ancestors, but the interrelationships between the many families presented herein. It is estimated that a full paper version of these files would be over 20,000 pages.

The information does not include data on living persons. We do have post-1900 information in our master database. Those who would like to offer additional information, make recommendations for changes, correct errors, etc., should send e-mail to either of us. If you want to contribute information for future releases of the Miles Files, please be prepared to provide some form of source documentation for any data before 1900. We will attempt to verify the sources and then quote the original sources. If we cannot verify the sources, but still choose to include contributed data, we will cite the contributors as the source of the information. In this case, please provide your full name and mailing address.

We are continuously updating and expanding our database from contributed information as well as our research. We plan to publish a new version about once a year, both on the web and a CD version. The CD will run within your web browser, just as it does on the Internet, but at much faster speeds. Responses to clicks will be almost instantaneous right from the CD. We are 3rd cousins and are originally from Saxis Island, Accomack County, Virginia, which is in upper Accomack County on the Chesapeake Bay side of the Eastern Shore near the MD/VA line. Our research tends to focus on upper Accomack County, but you will find families from not only other parts of Accomack County, but also from Northampton County, Virginia and Worcester and Somerset Counties, Maryland.
